Performance  Monitoring

The developed techniques for  Gas Turbine Engine (GTE) performance monitoring and prediction provide the required tools within a potential package for GTE performance evaluation. The package enables the users to quantify the performance of the GTE and compare it with a baseline condition (usually the brand-new condition). It can break down the performance deterioration phenomenon into sub-assembly level, and distinctly estimate the performance of the compressor and the turbine. The package can also predict the future performance of the mentioned sub-assemblies, given an upcoming operating envelope for the GTE. As a result, the GTE operating companies will be able to quantify the hidden losses caused by the GTE performance deterioration, and they can accordingly optimize the maintenance schedules

Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI)

LSC has undertaken R&D work on multi-disciplinary nature of FSI to predict flutter requires expertise in both Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM). It will require a series of CFD and CSM analysis for mapping complex unsteady fluid flow results and aerodynamic forcing from rotor –stator interaction to the CSM solver. This is a computationally expensive proposition, hence techniques would be required to reduce the computational time by using Fourier coefficients and optimal time steps. The geometry of the parts being analysed needs to be generated such that the CFD and CSM coupling is seamless as well as the numerical grids can be automatically generated to enable parametric design capability.
